Homers keep Post 312 rolling
ATTLEBORO - Lon Bornstein and Greg Hopkins each hit two-run home runs during a four-run rally in the bottom of the third inning to send the unbeaten South Attleboro American Legion baseball team to a 4-1 victory over Swansea in a District 9 contest on Thursday night at Bishop Feehan High School.
Swansea took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the third inning. However, Post 312 took the lead for good with a four-run uprising in the bottom of the third.
Matt Johnson reached base on an error before Bornstein cracked a two-run homer to give South Attleboro a 2-1 advantage. Later in the inning, Greg Dusel singled and scored on the two-run shot by Hopkins to make it 4-1. In the inning, Post 312 collected three of its five hits.
The game featured a pitching dual between two of the best hurlers in the area. Dave McLean of North Attleboro went the distance on the mound for the victory for Post 312. He surrendered one earned run and four hits, while striking out five batters and walking two.
Nate Koneski, a standout at Dighton-Rehoboth, pitched a complete game for Swansea as well. Over his six innings, Koneski allowed four earned runs and five hits, striking out five and walking one. Hopkins finished the game 2-for-3 with a single and the two-run homer.
South Attleboro improved to 7-0-1 with the win, while Swansea lost for the first time this season, dropping to 4-1. Post 312 will be a part of a District 9 tripleheader on Saturday in Achusnet, facing Taunton in the second game at 4 p.m. |
