Eason MVP at Shriners

WALTHAM - Former Mansfield High football standout and Boston College-bound Corey Eason was selected as the defensive Most Valuable Player for the South as his team defeated the North, 14-13, in the 29th annual Shriners' Football Classic on Friday night at Bentley College.

Foxboro's Ryan Moreshead saw action at linebacker and on special teams for the South. Moreshead, who is headed to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in the fall, was one of the defensive standouts for the team. Warrior teammate Chris Redd starred on both the offensive and defensive lines in the game for the South squad.

He will attend Assumption College in Worcester in the fall.

Tom Gilson of Mansfield played both wide receiver and defensive back for the South. With 47 seconds remaining in the game and the North trailing by just a point at 14-13 following a touchdown, the team decided to go for two and the win. However, Gilson preserved the victory for the South by stopping North quarterback Bobby Russo just short of the end zone to save the game.

Former North Attleboro High standout Anthony Sherman was selected to play in the Shriners' Classic, but could not take the field because of an ankle injury. Sherman is headed to the University of Connecticut next year. - MIKE HARDMAN
