FOXBORO - A great-grandmother from Foxboro was killed late Wednesday night in a three-vehicle crash on the Southeast Expressway in Braintree.

Cecilia E. Sullivan, 91, of 20 Adams St., was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus south on Interstate 93 about 11:15 p.m. when she struck the rear of an excavator in the second travel lane just before the Route 37 exit, state police said Thursday.

Sullivan spun into the third travel lane, where her car was struck by a 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Stephen Donahue, 55, of Waltham.

Sullivan was taken by ambulance to Milton Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Neither Donahue nor the driver of the excavator, Calvin G. Silva, 30, of Fall River, was injured, state police said. The three right southbound lanes of I-93 were closed for about two hours after the crash because of the accident investigation.

State police are still investigating the crash.

The state police commercial vehicle enforcement team, Braintree firefighters and Massachusetts Highway Department crews assisted troopers at the scene.

Born in Boston, Sullivan had lived in Foxboro for the past 37 years.

She was a longtime clerk, first for the Massachusetts State Port Authority and then in the print shop of the McCormack Building in Boston. She loved playing bridge. She was a member of the Puritan Bridge Club in Braintree.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann; grandchildren, Annmarie and Paula; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Joseph and Lillian.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St.

A funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Church on Carpenter Street. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

The family is asking that donations in Mrs. Sullivan's name be made to the Foxboro Discretionary Fund, P.O. Box 636, Foxboro, MA 02035.
