Police: Girlfriend made threat

ATTLEBORO - The girlfriend of an alleged drug dealer busted last week offered to "take the fall" for her boyfriend and, in overheard conversations in a police cell block, also threatened to kill the son of a city police officer, witnesses testified Monday.

Lindsey Donahue, 20, was overheard telling her boyfriend, Anthony Ruggiero, that "she would take the fall" and say drugs found in Ruggiero's bedroom were hers because she did not have a criminal record, Trooper Paul Baker testified in Attleboro District Court.

Donahue also allegedly said she knew the son of Attleboro police Sgt. Michael McDonnell, and that when she got out of jail "she was going to kill him," cell attendant Sandra Martin testified.

Martin, who listened as the two talked to each other from separate cells 20 feet apart at the Attleboro Police Station, said she took the threat seriously and reported it immediately to McDonnell.

The motive for the threat was not explained.
McDonnell, whom Donahue mistakenly thought was a lieutenant, was the shift commander last Tuesday night when she and Ruggiero were held in custody. But neither McDonnell nor his son were involved in the drug investigation, according to testimony.

Her lawyer, Jean Whitney, said her client was angry and upset and called the alleged threats "carrying on and mouthing off in the cell block."

She argued police did not take the alleged threat seriously because neither the state nor local police investigated the matter. No charges have been filed in connection with the alleged threats.

Ruggiero, 21, and Donahue were arrested last Tuesday after a month-long investigation by state police from the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, the Bristol County Drug Task Force and local police.

Ruggiero, who was the target of the investigation, allegedly sold marijuana to a confidential informant before police raided his home at 1227 South Main St., according to testimony and court records.

" Poor ant. I heard the guns were for protection, the marijuana was for personal and medicinal use. :) Talking about potentially killing a police officers family members? I use to do a lot of things, but I never took it personally when I got caught. stupid. "

" attleboro is a hole of a town.. this stuff does not surpise me.. immature children should be forced to grow up and go to school instead of being LAZY and dealing drugs.. lets see youre in jail for selling drugs.. you say youre going to take the blame.. and then say when you get out youre going to kill a cops son.. i might say thats quite intelligent.. if you want to go right back to jail.. seriously people need to get a grip on life!!! " Don't be surprised that the suspect would know a police officer's family. Remember Attleboro is a small city. More than once I was threatened because of work my dad did as a cop. She probably went to HS with him. "

" What a wise move on the part of this young lady, no one would sit in a police cell and think that they are not being listened to, she had tyo know that the person assigned to cells would be listening. She simply used the moment to covered her butt and send this young man to a long stint. "Honey, I know the drugs were your but I'll tell them the drugs are mine are mine so you won't get into the trouble you deserve." Curious how they pointed out a police officers son... anyone have any ideas why she would be so upsets with him? Could he be somehow involved in ratting them out or... how would she know of this boys existence, past experience with the child or the officers??? "

" People assume no one is listening. Have your heard some of the stuff that's shouted into cell phones these days? "
