Tow truck driver charged in theft from victim

ATTLEBORO - A tow truck driver called to a double fatal accident on Interstate 95 last month was arrested and fired from his job for allegedly stealing the wallet of one of the victims and using his credit cards.

Ronald S. Forget, 30, of 70 Ashton St. in Pawtucket, was held in Rhode Island prison Wednesday, facing charges in Providence District Court of fraudulent use of credit cards.

He is accused of using two credits cards belonging to Michael G. Doble, 36, of North Attleboro, who was killed July 21 when his pick up was struck in a multi-vehicle crash about 2:45 a.m. on I-95 just before the Interstate 295 interchange.

Forget was being held at the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston, R.I., according to a woman who identified herself as his wife, but who would not give her name.

"My condolences go out to the family. I already told the police that if there was any way to make it up to them. I feel so horrible. It's so horrible," the woman said in a telephone interview.

Forget was working for Sterry Street Towing of Pawtucket and South Attleboro, but was immediately fired from his job, according to police and the towing company.

"We just have a zero tolerance for that kind of thing or anything else out of the ordinary," said a manager at Sterry Street Towing who identified himself as Fred, but did not want to give his last name.

Forget was arrested by Pawtucket police five days after the fatal accident, allegedly for using one credit card to pay off a $475 T-Mobile cell phone bill, Pawtucket police Maj. John Whiting said.

The other was used by Forget to buy gas and pay for a car wash at the Mobil gas station on Newport Avenue in South Attleboro, Whiting said.

"He then stated he destroyed the cards," Whiting said a police report indicates.

Doble, the father of two children, was killed when his pickup truck rolled over in the collision, state police said.

He was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The chain-reaction crash started when a car driven by Isaac D. Souza, 21, of Leominster, crashed into a car parked in the breakdown lane.

Souza's car then ricocheted back onto the highway, and collided with the other vehicles, including Doble's pickup.

Souza was pronounced dead. Several others who were injured were taken to area hospitals.

State police say two other vehicles that might have been involved in the accident left the scene, and police were seeking the public's help in finding them.
