'Petrified' teen hid during burglary
Top Headlines The girl, a Beach Street resident, was not hurt while at least two men burglarized the house, police Detective Sgt. William McGrath said. The girl was in the closet for about 10 minutes and then the suspects fled, McGrath said. "She actually was never detected," McGrath said. "She did an amazingly, really good job of keeping her emotions in check while they were in the house. They just didn't get to her closet. She was very lucky. She was absolutely petrified." The suspects smashed a back door of the home to get inside, shortly before noon Wednesday. Police said they have a couple of leads to the housebreak. Police believe the suspects were in a fire-engine red sedan, possibly an older model, with a tan roof, and possibly convertible, that was in the area around the time of the crime. McGrath said he thinks the suspects entered the house because they believed no one was home. He also believes they may have tried other homes in the area first. "It's a common M.O. for this kind of a crime," McGrath said. "The reason for going to the door is to make sure no one is home." The girl told the police dispatcher she initially heard glass shatter, and then heard at least two men entering the house, McGrath said. The girl said she could hear the suspects ransacking the rooms of her home while she remained silent in a closet. The suspects fled before police arrived. Police are asking anyone with information on the break-in to call the Wrentham Police Detective Division at 508-384-6950. "No piece of information is insignificant and all callers may remain confidential," McGrath said. MICHAEL GELBWASSER can be reached at 508-236-0439 or at mgelbwasser@thesunchronicle.com.
