Two men arrested in Foxboro

FOXBORO - State police on Wednesday seized about a kilogram of suspected cocaine from two Boston men during a traffic stop on Interstate 95.

By sheer coincidence, the arrest happened just up the road from, and about 24 hours after, a similar cocaine bust.

On Wednesday, Trooper Robert Bohn pulled over a 1998 Lexus on I-95 North in Foxboro, just north of the Route 140 exit, for motor vehicle violations at 4:30 p.m., said Trooper Daniel O'Sullivan of the Foxboro barracks.

A state police dog named Drago found the cocaine in a hidden compartment of the car during a search involving Trooper Brian McKenna, Drago's handler, O'Sullivan said.

State police arrested the driver, Melvin VelazquezRivera, 27, of Dorchester, on a revoked driver's license. The passenger, Juan Garcia-Rosa, 28, of Roxbury, had an outstanding warrant. VelazquezRivera and Garcia-Rosa now face drug charges, O'Sullivan said.

The men are scheduled for arraignment in Wrentham District Court today.

The arrests came one day after state police arrested a woman and a man, both from Providence, on trafficking cocaine and related charges during a traffic stop on I-95 North in Mansfield, just north of Interstate 495.
