Top Headlines The temperature hit 95 degrees at 4 p.m., the city water department reported, just breaking the previous record of 94 degrees, set in 1993. That was quite a jump from last Tuesday, when the thermometer barely hit 70. Add the day's muggy conditions in with the heat, and Saturday had all the makings of a scorcher. Forecasters are predicting some relief later this week, with temperatures hovering in the high 70s and low 80s. And, despite Saturday's heat, people all over sweated it out and made the most of August's final weekend. In Attleboro, one couple exchanged wedding vows at St. John the Evangelist Church just as the temperature peaked, while guests in gowns and tuxedos wiped their brows. And, in Norton, newly-arrived freshmen and their parents lugged boxes and appliances up four flights of stairs as they moved into dorm rooms on their first day at Wheaton College. Student Government Association President Mike Zwolinski, one of the upperclassmen helping the new arrivals, said the relatively cool weather last week only made the heat more oppressive as they moved in.
