Denominations united in wake of Norton tragedy

To the editor:

This morning I attended the funeral service of Beth Cann, who died tragically last week at the hands of her boyfriend, who also tried to take the lives of two of her daughters. I think a public thank you is in order for the graciousness shown to Beth's family and friends who were from many different communities and multidenominational, including Catholic, Congregational and Methodist. St. John's Church in Canton opened its doors to a Canton family in need, showing hospitality and openness and meeting the needs of a family whose deceased loved one was practicing a religion other than Catholicism. We are all one Christian family and when the chips are down that was evident this past Saturday morning.

Father Kelly, from St. James Church in Stoughton, welcomed the guests who filled every seat in the church. He was most gracious in his opening remarks, making people feel very at home. His words were warm and inviting, preparing us for a multidenominational service in which the main celebrant was from Trinity Congregational Church in Norton. I am very proud today to say that I am from St. John's Parish in Canton.

There were warm and loving tributes to Beth, who had to be more special than most of us know to bring so many people together to celebrate her life and death in Jesus Christ. May the blessings of God, our father, continue to be felt in the healing process of this horrific tragedy and may the hand of Jesus touch everyone at their moment of need.
