ATTLEBORO - An accused drug dealer arrested in July after an undercover investigation was indicted Friday on drug peddling and weapons charges by a Bristol County grand jury.

Anthony Ruggiero, 21, of 1227 South Main St. in Attleboro, faces arraignment in New Bedford Superior Court but no date was immediately scheduled.

The grand jury handed up indictments charging Ruggiero with unlawful possession of two handguns, unlawful possession of ammunition in addition to drug charges, said Gregg Miliote, spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter.

The drug charges include possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of each of the drugs with intent to distribute them in a school zone, Miliote said.

Ruggiero was arrested July 17 by state police detectives and Attleboro police after police raided his home. He pleaded innocent in Attleboro District Court. An indictment is not a finding of guilty or innocence but a formal charge which will transfer his case to superior court for trial.

During a raid at Ruggiero's home, state police detectives seized two handguns, an ounce of marijuana, a half-ounce of cocaine, a digital scale and other alleged drug paraphernalia from his bedroom.

The Colt .45-calilber semi-automatic pistol and a .357-caliber Magnum revolver were found, along with more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

They also seized $1,435 in cash from Ruggiero's pants pocket, prosecutors said.

The investigation was conducted by state police assigned to the Bristol County district attorney's office and the Bristol County Drug Task Force, according to court records.
