BASEBALL
Registration for the third annual King Philip Regional High School baseball team's golf outing and fundraiser is underway. The outing will be held Oct. 13 at the Wentworth Hills Country Club in Plainville, starting at 8:30; entry fee of $100 includes the greens fee, use of a golf cart, dinner at the Wrentham American Legion Post and entry for various raffles. In addition, hole sponsorship may be purchased. Registration may be made to KP Baseball Fundraiser, 721 Pulaski Blvd., Bellingham, 02019 by Oct. 6.

Swansea Independent Baseball League will hold a player registration session this week for the 2008 baseball season. The SIBL will hold a registration session Friday, Sept. 28. The session will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Cut Price Spas, Pools & Billiards located at 190 G.A.R Highway (Route 6) in Swansea. Players born on or between May 1, 1992, and April 30, 2004, will be eligible to compete in the SIBL next year. All registrants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, must present proof of birth, and must pay the leagues player registration fees. Residents of Rehoboth, Seekonk and Dighton are eligible to compete in the SIBL. The SIBL will again next season operate six separate playing divisions Instructional (predominantly for 4-year-old players, Pinto (5- and 6-year-olds), Mustang (7- and 8-year-olds), Bronco National (9- and 10-year-olds), Bronco American (11- and 12-year-olds) and Greg Gagne (13- to 15-year-olds). The league is primarily based at the Nike Site Playing Complex in Swansea, which features five playing fields (including two with lights) and several auxiliary facilities. The SIBL provides all players with uniforms, playing equipment, insurance coverage and full regular-season playing schedules. In addition, the league offers a thorough all-star tournament program for players in its upper three divisions. Starting the week of September 24, the King Philip Basketball Association will be holding tryouts for boys and girls in grades four through eight that live in the towns of Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham. Pre-Season High School Basketball Shootout, presented by Indoor Action Sports, will be held at Keene State College in Keene, N.H. on November 24 for both boys and girls. The cost is $200 per team plus $25/game for referee (certified refs). The teams are guaranteed two games with the registration deadline being November 19. The divisions for both the boys and girls tournaments are A (D1, Class A, L or LL schools); B (D2, Class B, Medium schools); andC (D3, Class C, Small schools). New England Colonials International Basketball Club invites applications for its two overseas basketball tours scheduled for the April 2008 school vacation. Our Colonials' Rovers tour, open to boys in the 9th grade, will head to Ireland. Our older Ambassadors team for boys in grade 10 will visit and play in Finland and Estonia. As on all the team's tours, Colonials' players will be hosted by the families of their basketball peers at each stop on the tour. Several stipends are available for players with financial need. Colonials' teams do not hold tryouts and rely on references and an assessment of the applicant's commitment to school, community, and basketball. Founded in 1980, the New England Colonials International Basketball Club is a non-profit, volunteer run program that has as its central purpose the support and encouragement of international friendship and understanding between New England student-athletes and their peers around the world. HOCKEY
The Tri County Saints, named Mass Hockey's Program of the Year 2006-7, is a non-profit youth hockey organization providing quality, affordable hockey in the Taunton area for over 20 years. The Saints are now accepting applications for our Learn to Skate/Play Programs online at www.tricountysaints.com. The Learn to Skate/Play program begins September 29 and runs through April 2008 and costs less than $10 an hour. Our instructional programs provide quality skating instruction with former high school hockey coach Steve Folan, as well as provide the basics of hockey in a supportive environment for all ages on Saturdays. The Tri County Saints House league is still accepting applications and takes place on weekends only and is for those children age 10 and under who want to learn about hockey and have fun playing the game. PUNT, PASS AND KICK
Third Annual Special Olympics Punt, Pass and Kick event will take place on September 29 at the King Philip Pop Warner fields at the Wrentham Developmental Center. Opening ceremonies start at 9:30 am. This event is the only one of its kind and was created and is sponsored by King Philip Pop Warner. King Philip Pop Warner's staff and coaches will conduct instruction for Special Olympics athletes and other participants. At 12:30 pm, the Punt, Pass and Kick competition will begin, where each participant will be allowed to punt, pass and placekick as part of his/her competition. The day's competition will be followed by an awards ceremony for all participants and athletes. Last year, more than 100 athletes participated in the Punt, Pass and Kick event and it is expected that there will be more participants at this year's event.
