NORTH ATTLEBORO - Falls School fifth-graders had some of the best science scores on the state MCAS test last year.
Fifty six percent of the students scored advanced on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System science test given last spring, giving the children the third highest scores in the state.
Only Luther Conant School in Acton and Brackett School in Arlington did better.
Principal George Gagnon attributed the success to hard work by the students and the excellent teaching of Lee Anne Todd and Sharon Pelletier.
He said the teaching staff analyzes the test results every year to determine what questions the students answered incorrectly so adjustments in teaching can be made.
For instance, he said the school discovered that students were weak on questions about sound on the science test and moved to beef up that part of the curriculum.
He also said sometimes a particular class is just exceptional in a particular subject.
