NA students collect cans for food pantry

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Attempting to show that two girls can make a difference, two high school students are hoping to collect 10,000 cans and non-perishable food items for Lenore's Pantry.

Kayla Hoff and Hollie Badger, both 16, came up with the idea of collecting non-perishable food items for Lenore's Pantry after reading a call for donations in the newspaper.

"As two active members in the community of North Attleboro, we decided to help them out," Hoff and Badger said in a letter about the donation drive. "With nearly 10,000 households in the North Attleboro community, we are hoping to reach our goal of one can or non-perishable good per household. We are asking for your help in this time of need."

The pair have placed bins in spots around town with bright yellow signs. While today, which is National Make A Difference Day, is their deadline, anyone interested in making a donation can still do so by dropping off cans and non-perishable goods today at the North Attleboro Electric Department building on Landry Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m..

Public Health Nurse Anne Marie Fleming said the donations for the pantry will be greatly appreciated. She said the number of families serviced by the pantry has doubled to more than 80 in the eight years she has worked for the town's health department. "I appreciate the fact these students are thinking about the community and trying to help those who are in need," she said.
