Top Headlines The Rocketeers notched their fifth straight victory, their second in as many days, by securing a 3-1 decision over Stoughton Monday in a Hockomock League match, the regular season finale for North. "We're moving the ball pretty well and we're scoring some goals," said North coach Geoff Burgess, whose Rocketeers closed at 10-5-2 with an MIAA Division 1-South Sectional Tournament seeding, foe and sight to be forthcoming later in the week. Kristen McLoughlin netted a pair of goals for North, which created a 2-0 halftime advantage by outshooting the Black Knights by a 10-1 margin over the initial 40 minutes. North, which claimed a 3-0 victory at Stoughton earlier in the season, however needed McLoughlin's second goal of the match, that at 68:02 to breath a sigh of relief. McLoughlin took a feed from Kelly Curtis, tricky-dribbled her way through a pair of onrushing Stoughton defenders and then uncorked a point-blank, eight yard shot into the nete. McLoughlin also scored the match-winning goal for North, that in the 33rd minute. She took a nice through ball from midfield off the toe of Alix Vandeventer, then similarly slipped through the Stoughton defense to go one-on-one with the Black Knight goalie. Chelsea Gavilanez created a one-goal lead for North in the 19th minute, finishing off a feed from Kassandra Raposo. The Rocketeers ended up with a 23-4 advantage in shots, 16 of those were on net, while also having a half-dozen corner kicks. North had three corner kicks within the first five minutes of the second half, in addition to seeing a Brenna Johnson header, a Maryanne Speicher 25-yard drive and a McLoughlin point-blank shot all being denied. And in the waning minutes, Brooke Dean had a point blank shot from six yards out hit the crossbar and the ball being cleared off of the goal line. Stoughton's lone tally, in the 62nd minute came on a 50-yard blast from midfield by Tori Zupkofska that scooted between the legs of the North goalie. Foxboro 3, King Philip 1 FOXBORO - Also in the Hockomock League, Rachel Jamieson and Liz Greeley both had a goal and an assist as the host Warriors wrapped up the regular season with an upset win over MIAA Tournament-bound King Philip. "It's a great way to end the season. We had a lot of close games this year (losing 2-1 to King Philip the first time around) but our senior leadership was great," said Foxboro coach Caitlin Annicelli, whose team finished 5-9-3. Greeley opened the scoring from Jamieson midway through the first as the two teams went to the intermission tied 1-all, Marissa Uvanovic scoring for King Philip (9-7-2, 8-6-2 Hockomock). Olivia Roma scored from Greeley to put Foxboro back on top, then Jamieson potted a Katie Murray pass to cap the scoring. Sam Jamieson, Carly Martyniak and Kate Brolin (eight saves) all played well for Foxboro. Mansfield 1, Sharon 1 SHARON - The Hornets created the point that they needed, in the final regular season match, salvaging a tie with Sharon and qualifying for the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Tournament. Mansfield (6-6-6) overcame an early (at the 19-minute mark) deficit, tying the score on a goal by Kelly McCabe in the 30th minute. "We'll be all right," said MHS coach Kevin Smith, whose Hornets went 1-1-1 over its final three matches. Moreover, with junior sweeper back Ally Nagle returning to the lineup after a concussion and Samantha Doucette at an outside marking back, the Hornets' backline defense in front of goalie Jacki MacPherson (nine saves against Sharon) has been solid. The Hornets have yielded just 17 goals in 18 matches, five of those in the two that Nagle was on the sidelines. Mansfield and Sharon battled to a scoreless tie earlier in the season. The Hornets, however, while having good possession of the ball through midfield, were unable to create more sure-fire scoring chances, having just seven shots and not one corner kick.
