GUEST COLUMN: Put Attleboro's Ward 6 on progressive course

I am running for Ward 6 city councilor.

I was born, raised and educated in Attleboro.

Presently, I am employed within Citizens Bank corporate accounting. My accounting knowledge gives me the ability to identify, compute, and assess the City of Attleboro's economic position to permit informed judgments and decisions. I also perform consulting work focusing on international trade and domestic logistical analysis for a respected supply-chain management firm. Additionally, I was a teacher for the City of Attleboro; third grade at Studley Elementary School, head teacher at Wamsutta Middle School for the ABACUS program and a system-wide language arts educator. It was an honor to have been mentored by and work alongside those educators who had inspired me during my own educational experience!

I am a proud graduate of Attleboro High School. Moreover, I received my degree from Bridgewater State College where I earned a bachelor's in history and a bachelor's in education. I am pleased to say I achieved consecutive dean's list honors. Currently, I am pursuing my master's degree in business management and accounting.

As Ward 6 Councilor, I believe my commitment to Attleboro, my educational, financial and business background enables me to meet the future needs of all Attleboro residents. In addition, I will campaign for Chapter 90 program funds to maintain, improve, and repair Ward 6 roadways and sidewalks. I feel we need to analyze and dissect the implications of our city finances and programs. We need to evaluate city expenditures with a view of maintaining a strong fiscal position and an awareness of the impact on taxpayers. As well, I will endorse the advantage of doing business in Attleboro and work to reinforce community partnerships with businesses and nonprofit entities.

Also, I will endorse high quality public safety services and maintain a high level of public confidence in these services. I support public education and the constant development of our educational system. Our children are our future and the greatest gift we can give them is a high-quality education. And also, ensuring the city provides excellent public services to all the residents of Attleboro.

More importantly, my goals are your goals. I will listen to you. I want to hear what you think and want. To contact me or obtain more information, please visit my website, shannonheagney.com.

I will represent Ward 6 with pride and confidence. Please cast your vote for me, Shannon Heagney, on Nov. 6 and move Ward 6 forward!
