NORTH ATTLEBORO - If you've been missing your weekly fresh fish fix since the demise of Ocean Fresh Seafood, worry no longer - Fresh Catch will be opening up a new retail store in the same location.
Fresh Catch Restaurant owner Bill Sarro Jr. will open a retail shop called the Fresh Catch Seafood and Butcher Shop at North Plaza on Route 1. The shop, which will be open seven days a week, will officially open for business today.
"We'll have a full service meat and deli shop with lobsters, seafood and other items, including a salad section. It's going to have a little bit of everything."
Sarro emphasized that he is not taking over Ocean Fresh, but opening a new store at the same location.
"We didn't take over the assets or liabilities of Ocean Fresh, so we can't go in and honor any gift certificates that were given out by Ocean Fresh. That's an issue that's between the customer and the bank."
Ocean Fresh's troubles came to light in mid-September when Wells Fargo Business Credit seized the business after owner Robert Coutu defaulted on a loan, failing to repay $9 million. Wells Fargo sold off the store's inventory and closed it last month.
Fresh Catch Seafood and Butcher Shop will be Sarro's fifth location. He has been working feverishly to open a new location in the former Union Station Restaurant in Attleboro and already has two restaurants in Easton and one in Mansfield.
He expects to have about 20 to 25 employees at his new North Attleboro location.
