Truck driver finally freed

A flatbed tractor-trailer truck rolled over on Interstate 95 South in Foxboro approximately one mile north of Route 140 early Tuesday afternoon spilling it's load of sheet rock. FOXBORO - The driver of a tractor-trailor truck suffered serious injuries today after being trapped in his cab for almost two hours after the truck rolled over on Interstate 95 South.

State Police Sgt. Mike Rafferty said the driver, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Rhode Island Trauma Center at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence for treatment.

Rescue workers labored for almost two hours to extract the man from the cab of his truck. The truck apparently left the roadway while traveling south just before noon, plowed into a stand of trees, and rolled over.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The accident caused a traffic nightmare for those heading south, backing up the highway for hours as state police reduced travel to one lane.
The highway was finally cleared up late in the afternoon but residual backup was still being felt during the evening rush hour as commuters from Boston returned to their suburban homes south of Foxboro.

Rafferty said the cause of the accident remained unknown.

The flatbed truck was hauling sheetrock, witness to the scene said.
