Operatic voices to perform at Village Concert Series
Top Headlines Calenos, a native of Greece, received her master's in music in vocal performance at Queens College in New York. Calenos has performed in Europe, Israel, and the U.S., and is a second-year member of the Opera Institute. Gerdes, a New York native, received his bachelor in voice from Florida State University, and his master from the New England Conservatory. Gerdes is currently in his second year at the institute, and has performed abroad in Germany, and was a Young Artist with the Merola Opera Program and Santa Fe Opera in 2004 and 2006, respectively. Go contra dancing There will be a New England contra challenging dance on Friday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. at Goff Memorial Hall, 124 Bay State Road in Rehoboth. Caller Sue Rosen will lead the session, and Bruce Rosen and Lissa Schneckenburger, who make up Phantom Power, will perform music. Partners are not necessary. Tickets are $7. School marks Thanksgiving Students at the Palmer River Elementary School put on a mock Thanksgiving Day feast after spending all month learning details of the first Thanksgiving. The children made their own Native American and Pilgrim costumes. The children also "churned their own butter and made cornbread to boot. Each child brought in two feathers telling about what they were thankful for and a can of peas for the food drive. Dinner to be served The council on aging will host its annual senior holiday dinner on Sunday, Dec. 9 at noon at the Beckwith Middle School, 330 Winthrop St., Rehoboth. Have breakfast with Santa The Rehoboth Council on Aging is sponsoring "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9-11 a.m. at the Senior Center, 55 Bay State Road. Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, juice and coffee or hot chocolate fill the menu, and pictures with Santa are also available. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for children. Have 'high tea' at Carpenter Museum The Carpenter Museum will host a special "Ladies' High Tea" on Friday, Dec. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. Savor the holidays by spending an hour or so sipping tea and chatting with friends as you relax in the warm ambiance of the beautifully decorated museum. Admission is free. The Carpenter Museum, Blanding Library and Goff Hall are supported by the Rehoboth Antiquarian Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving history, sharing knowledge, and celebrating the arts. Help food pantry Here's a reminder that the Rehoboth Business Association is partnering with the Rehoboth Helping Hands Food Pantry to collect food and clothing for those in need. The business association is collecting food and clothing donations at 513 Winthrop St. (Route 44) on the second Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The donated clothing and non-perishable food items will be transferred to the Helping Hands Pantry to help families in need.
