D'ARCONTE: Thanks for the papers
![]() Top Headlines "Here is a copy of a newspaper from my trip to visit relatives on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in Nebraska and Iowa," writes Sterling Alam. "My grandfather farmed and ran a trading post there around the turn of the century. He built an electric company even before the major cities nearby had electricity. "You can see from this small paper that the major news today centers around the complex relationships between tribal government and the U.S. government." "We went to New Orleans on a great trip awarded to Gary by his work," write Gary and Pam Middleton. "We had a wonderful time!" "Here are some papers from Maine and from when my wife Lynne and I went to California to the garlic festival in Gilroy, a three-day event that I saw the ads for on the Food Network," writes Ed Radny. "Spent time with Lynne's brother Bruce Razee, formerly of Attleboro, and his wife Carol. "Real estate prices are outrageous there," he reports, "but the coast is beautiful. Enjoy the newspapers." "It's been a while since I've written you, but here I am again with newspapers in hand from my latest journey," writes Richard D. Perez of Norton. "My wife Jill and I recenty traveled to Friendship, Maine, to visit her cousins Vic and Vaneesa Motyka, who were long-time residents of Attleboro until they decided to retire to the North Country. "Having never been to anywhere but a brief trip to Portland, I was amazed at the wide open country, the beautiful lighthouses and friendly people. "Vic says if you stay there long enough it will 'work its magic on you' and you won't want to leave. "Well, call me a city boy, but I could not wait to get back to Norton, though there is something to be said for the endless array of fresh and delicious seafood and super-rich homemade ice cream. "But before I left I snagged two Sunday papers and a few weeklies for your perusal. I hope you enjoy and can glean ideas from them. "I promised my wife I'd go back to Maine," he adds, "but not too very soon. I'm still getting over visiting what a friend of mine calls 'the sticks.' Or, you could say, I'm recovering from 'stick-e shock'!" "Went to visit my brother Ronald and my sister Joan and her husband Eugene, and my grandson Michael and his children Crystal and Michael, and my granddaughter Angela and her husband Richard, in Upstate New York and brought back copies of local papers for you," says a note with papers from Amsterdam and Albany. "Had a nice holiday weekend." Unfortunately, I know more about the family than the writer. The note was unsigned, and if there any other ID I misplaced it. Thanks to Ken Ross, one of our assistant managing editors, for an Orange County Register he brought back from a business trip to California, and a Denver Post he picked up at the airport during a stop.
