NORTH ATTLEBORO - The first-ever Toys for Tots drive at Achin's Garage went "just fabulous," according to owner Don Achin, who excitedly reported filling 15 donation boxes for the Marine Corps annual holiday toy drive.

"It was overwhelming. Just incredible," Achin said. "Everybody was very receptive."

With a little help from Boston Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster and the wives of three New England Patriots, Achin said about 200 people stopped in to drop off toys, which will be handed over to Toys For Tots next week.

Patriot wives who helped to host the event were Jodee Neal, wife of offensive lineman Steven Neal, Kara Mankins, wife of offensive lineman Logan Mankins, and Mel Pees, wife of defensive coordinator Dean Pees.

Achin said he decided to host a drive this year after seeing so many families struggling to make ends meet.
"I just think the need for help with children this year is starting to increase," he said. "Parents are in trouble right now, and every kid deserves Christmas."
