Police arrest suspect with driver's help
Top Headlines Manuel J. Mayorga, 50, of Providence, was arraigned Monday in Attleboro District Court on charges of driving under the influence, and driving to endanger. He pleaded innocent and is free without bail. A Central Falls, R.I., man spotted Mayorga's car traveling "all over the road" on Prospect Street in Pawtucket and called 911 from a cell phone around 8 p.m. Friday, police said. The motorist stayed on the telephone with the 911 operator and followed Mayorga onto Interstate 95 to Interstate 295, where the car slowed to about 30 mph, police said. The 911 operator patched the call through to North Attleboro police, who spotted the caller and Mayorga's car on Route 1 at South Washington Street, where it was stopped at a traffic light, police said. Officer Thomas McCafferty said in a police report that Mayorga's car was blocking two lanes of travel, then drove erratically before he stopped the vehicle just north of the intersection. Police said Mayorga took a breath-alcohol test, which registered 0.20 percent, twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. Mayorga is due back in court March 10.
