Renga was a first team All-American selection in 2002 and holds the Bulldog single--season (99) and career (196) record for hits, ranking 32nd nationally in hitting as a senior ... If there was ever a multi-purpose football player on offense, it had to be North Attleboro High senior Dan Rayburg, who accumulated 818 yards of offense and scored a touchdown - both offensively and defensively - every way, save for an interception return. Rayburg totaled 401 yards rushing, caught 14 passes for 196 yards, returned seven kicks for 159 yards and six punts for 62 yards ... King Philip High lacrosse star Mary Pasquantonio has inked a letter of intent to attend Merrimack. Pasquantonio, an 100-goal scorer her junior year, joins her sister Kelly, a sophomore and field hockey (leading scorer)and lacrosse player at Merrimack. A third Pasquantonio, Julie, plays lacrosse at UMass-Amherst. Merrimack coach Corrine Baker said "She has a superb knowledge of the game, has the ability to be a leader on the field. Her quickness and endurance will play a key part in maintaining our midfield. She has limitless potential." ... Running back-linebacker Mike Abany was tabbed the MVP of Mike Redding's Mansfield High football team at the Hornet Gridiron Club's breakup dinner. The recipient of the Gold Helmet Award was linebacker Will Gasson, Dave Conte took home the Most Improved award and wide receiver-defensive back Dave Westhaver was the recipient of the Sportsmanship award. Captains for the 2008 edition of Hornet football will be Jeff Mallett, Dan Glavin, Andrew Doherty and Greg DiPietrantonio ... "She just has a really good nose for the ball and she has long arms," related Foxboro High girls' hoop coach Sarah Behn of the rebounding prowess of 6-1 junior Rehema Strouble, averaging double digits off the glass ... Former North Attleboro High swimmer Liz Rosen was tabbed the Clark University Athlete of the Week, winning both the 1,000 freestyle (11:20) and 200 IM (2:24) in a tri-meet against Babson and Mt. Holyoke ... "She should be one of the best in the state," said Norton High track coach Kent Thomas of junior Kelly Allen, who shattered the Lancers indoor shot put record with a toss of 38-feet, 1-inch in a tri-meet ... "Having the kind of seniors we did, kids like (TE-LB) Pat Legare, (two-way linemen) Chris Gibney and Kevin Gray, who didn't play a lot, but contributed so much in practice made this season special," said Bishop Feehan High football coach Tony Wood of some of his "star" Shamrocks ... The 2008 North Attleboro High golf team will be lead by co-captains-elect Greg Reddington and Ryan Doherty ... Kim Bray's Norton High co-ed swimming team has seven new members, boosting the total to 17, including promising sophomore Jessica Lantos, who swam with the Taunton Boys and Girls Club team last winter. "This is a good crew," said Bray, whose Lancers train five or six days a week at Wheaton College ... The Mansfield High boys' hoop team has a new assistant coach in Marquis Taylor, via powerhouse St. Bernard's High of Los Angeles, who played at Stonehill College after initially heading East to attend the Naval Prep Academy in Newport, R.I. ... "He's one of those kids that the more he scores, the better he plays," said Seekonk High boys' hoop coach Rick Patch of junior guard Kyle Charron. "He's a scorer." ... At the breakup dinner for Paul Pontes' Bishop Feehan High girls' soccer team, the Unsung Hero award went to junior midfielder, Elizabeth Farrell; the 12th player award to sophomore forward/midfielder Siobhan Devoy; the Coaches Award to senior captain forward/midfielder Jenn Leaverton; and the MVP Award to junior midfielder Jenna Roncarati.
