The Hockomock League Tournament champion, Grant Certuse of Mansfield High, and the R.I. Golf Association junior champion, Owen Lynch of Bishop Feehan High School are two of the dozen elite golfers from the area selected to the The Sun Chronicle's 2007 All-Star Golf Team.
Certuse, a four-time selection, is joined on the roster by two-time selection Kyle Marcolini and pairs of players from Foxboro High, Attleboro High, Bishop Feehan and Dighton-Rehoboth High along with King Philip High senior James Fair and Norton High sophomore Peter Danko.
Certuse, who won the Hockomock Tournament title at the Foxborough CC, also lead the Hornets to the team title that day with a score of 234, 20 strokes ahead of runner-up Foxboro High.
The Warriors of Foxboro were represented on the The Sun Chronicle team by junior Matt Cote and sophomore Brian Kronmiller, the latter a top 10 finisher at the Hockomock Tournament.
Attleboro High, runner-up in the Old Colony League to Barnstable, were represented on the team by senior Steve Mello and sophomore Brandon Nolan.
Dighton-Rehoboth, which took fifth at the South Coast Conference Championship Tournament and ninth at the MIAA Division 2 Qualifying Tournament, is represented by senior Shawn Wynn and junior Kyle Harper.
Marcolini, a top 10 scorer at the Hockomock League Tournament over the past two seasons, is joined on the team by Bishop Feehan High senior Lucas Gagne - the son of Shamrock baseball coach Greg Gagne - and Danko, the lone sophomore selected to the Tri-Valley League all-star team.
According to the National Federation of State High Schools, golf is one of the top 10 sports for boys to compete in nationally as 13,541 schools provide for varsity teams and more than 156,000 individuals traverse the links.
The four area Hockomock League member schools - Mansfield, Foxboro, North Attleboro and King Philip - all qualified for the South Sectional Tournaments, with Certuse, Marcolini and Cote advancing to the State Tournament. |
