Claire and Dennis Naughton are divided on support for Democratic presidential candidates. (SUBMITTTED)
FOXBORO - Through four decades of marriage and political activism, Claire and Dennis Naughton have worked side by side to elect Democrats to office.
Like-minded when it comes to politics, the work was made easy because they supported the same candidates.
That is, until now.
The Naughtons have gone their separate ways when it comes to the Democratic race for president.
She is with Sen. Hillary Clinton. He supports Sen. Barack Obama.
"We've been married 40 years, and this is the first time we haven't agreed on a political candidate," she said.
"We've disagreed on issues before, but not candidates."
So during Tuesday's primary, Claire was out at the polls holding a sign for Clinton while Dennis was standing beside her with an Obama sign.
He said he likes Obama because he has the rare ability to unite the country.
"He is an inspirational figure for a lot of people," he said.
Obama is a little like John Kennedy in his ability to motive young people, he said.
Claire Naughton said she likes Clinton because of her experience and "hands on" management style.
She said Clinton has a command of the issues that is apparent in debates.
Despite their passion about politics, the Naughtons said their disagreement never becomes heated.
"We deal with it with humor," Dennis Naughton said. "I tease her about something Hillary did and she will tease me about something Obama did."
He said one of the most fun times they have had recently was watching the last debate together.
"We were just sitting on the couch chatting about everything they did," he said.
It is not just local families that are being divided over the election.
The Kennedy clan seems to be playing the part of Family Feud.
Ted, Patrick and Caroline Kennedy have endorsed Obama.
Robert Kennedy Jr. and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend are working for Clinton.
U.S. Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., is with Clinton, while his wife supports Obama.
Clinton and Obama are hardly the only home wreckers in the bunch.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger endorsed Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, for president while his wife, Maria Shriver, has been stumping for Obama.
Closer to home, Karen Miller of Mansfield said she voted for McCain while her husband voted for Clinton and her daughter voted for Obama.
