The last picture show for Triboro

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The final curtain has fallen at Triboro Cinemas - along with the rest of the building.

The theater, which has been vacant since closing on Labor Day weekend in 2005, is being razed. The planning board office said it has not received word of plans for the site and that the property owners may just be demolishing the building to clean up the site.

The abandoned building had apparently become attractive to vandals, who covered the exterior walls in graffiti, and visitors who broke into the abandoned building to simply look around.

There are several Web sites run by "urban explorers" that include pictures of the interior of the theater - including moldy seats, blank screens and corroded bubblers.

The property is listed as owned by the Arthur Demoulas Trust in the assessor's database. The Tewksbury address in the database is owned by Retail Management and Development Inc. A phone message left there was not returned on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old theater had seen a decline in attendance since the 1996 opening of Showcase Cinemas on Route 1 and Cinema Pub, also on Route 1.
