GO: Patty Larkin does it all on new CD 'Watch the Sky'

Patty Larkin will play a CD release party at Circle of Friends Coffeehouse in Franklin on Saturday night. (Submitted)

ATTLEBORO - Admission is $20 for the 8 p.m. show at the First Universalist Society Meetinghouse. For information call 508-528-2541.

Larkin wrote, produced, engineered, and composed much of the material as it came to her for her new CD. Interwoven with Larkin's creative songwriting are a kaleidoscope of sounds - from her detuned lap steel guitar played with a drumstick and hand, to a baritone guitar played with a child's violin bow.

Larkin's former co-producers, Bette Warner and Ben Wittman, joined her at various times to collaborate, but much of the work was solitary.

"I've always been a writer who enjoyed the solitude of the creative process," Larkin said. "Learning the technology to be able to record myself and edit it down was something I've been working toward for quite some time. Some of the songs were written in a stream of words as the tracks rolled by; most all of them were recorded immediately after having written them."

Ellis will open for Larkin.
Larkin is just one of two folk and acoustic heavyweights visiting the area this weekend. Garnet Rogers will be performing at Stone Soup Coffeehouse in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15. The versatile Rogers has built up a legion of followers singing songs about ordinary people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of everyday life. Kym Tuvim will open.

Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., Cumberland, R.I., will present Irish supergroup Lunasa at 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $20 for each show. For reservations or information call Blackstone River Theatre at (401) 725-9272 or visit www.riverfolk.org.

Steve's Backstage Pass, 15 School St., Taunton, lets the rhythm, blues and jazz roll all weekend with the Chili Brothers Saturday and Low Profile headlining a Sunday night jazz program. The Chili Brothers play "Funkified" Blues, R&B, Jazz and other forms. Cover is $7 for the 9 p.m. show. Low Profile, led by jazz guitarist Jeremy Quick, will be appearing at 7 p.m. Sunday. Cover is $10. Quick, an interpreter of jazz styles from swing to Bebop, is joined by saxophonist Paul Saunders, bassist Sven Larson and drummer Dave Fox at the Taunton-Attleboro area's only weekly jazz showcase.

It's Ernie and the Automatics for two shows Friday at Chan's, 267 Main St., Woonsocket. The Boston blues band, which includes two former members of the rock supergroup Boston, will be playing at 8 and 10 p.m. The lineup also includes car dealer Ernie Boch Jr. Admission is $10-15. For reservations call 401-765-1900.

U.S. Sam, the Norton country singer, will be featured along with The Jethros, the Patmos Brothers and Lonesome Steve and the Aching Hearts as part of the Honky Tonk Roadhouse Revue at 8 p.m. Saturday at Bridge Street Station, 122 Main St., Fairhaven.
