Firefighters free city crash victim
Top Headlines Firefighters had to work for about an hour with hydraulic tools and other extricating equipment to free Michael Donlevy from the car, officials said. Donlevy, 43, of Attleboro, suffered leg injuries and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was listed in serious condition Friday. Donlevy was the lone occupant of the vehicle and his injuries were not believed to be life threatening, officials said. The accident occurred around 1 a.m. at a curve near Kimberley Court where several other accidents have occurred. Police charged Donlevy with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving to endanger after an investigation by Officer Dawn Gemme, said Sgt. Wayne Bennett. Bennett said Donlevy lost control of the car at the curve and went off the road, striking a utility pole and rolling over. The car then slammed into a tree in a yard, trapping Donlevy inside the vehicle. "The car was literally wrapped around the tree," Fire Capt. Keith Jackson said. Jackson said firefighters had to work an hour to free the victim from the vehicle using two sets of power cutting equipment, chains and stabilizing equipment. Firefighters had to maneuver the wreckage from the tree and cut the roof off the car to get the driver out, Jackson said. Donlevy will be summonsed to Attleboro District Court at a later date to face the charges.
