Brutus

Pets of the Week

Area shelters submitted the following photos and descriptions of animals available for adoption:

BRUTUS

Meet Brutus. He is a handsome, 8-month-old, sweet-natured boy. Brutus is looking for a stable home and a routine. He is a very energetic young dog who came to us with very little training. He is still learning how to greet people properly and walk on a lead like a gentleman. We are currently helping Brutus with his manners by employing a dog trainer to teach both Brutus and the volunteers who work with him. Brutus has come a long way during his stay with us; he's better on a lead and knows "sit" very well. It is essential that he find a home that is committed to continuing the work the shelter has begun with him. Because of his energy and size, and need for proper social skills, he would do best in a home without young children. He needs an active owner who is willing and committed to provide lots of exercise so that Brutus can then settle down to concentrate on what is asked of him. Brutus might be able to get along with another dog, but he seems selective about his canine buddies. We would not recommend him for a home with cats. If you have the time and energy and are looking for an athletic companion, Mr. Brutus is waiting for you. Please call the Mansfield Animal Shelter at 508-261-7339 or visit www.Mansfieldshelter.org

BRADLEY

"Won't you help me? I'm running out of time my owner and her boyfriend parted ways. She moved out but couldn't take me with her. Her boyfriend is never home and says he's running out of choices as to what to do with me. I'm 14 years old, in great health and the boyfriend says I'm very friendly. So won't you let me live out my senior years in a new, loving home? Thank you! Looking forward to being rescued by you!"

If you would like to adopt Bradley, please call 508-431-6700 and fill out an application on our Web site: www.petfinder.org/shelters/MA98.html. Any tax-deductible donations to help the felines can be sent to: AFOC, P.O. Box 283, Attleboro, MA 02703.

MEESHI

"Even though I always have that grumpy look on my face, I'm really a sweet girl. It's just that I'm a Persian and, well, I just look grumpy due to my pushed in face. I think it gives me character (and some attitude, too)! I also have some great tortoise shell colors and bright yellow eyes. I love to be held, and I really love to cuddle up on a lap. I even like most other cats, some small dogs and kids, too. I'm a little stressed being at the shelter, and I would really love to be in a new home soon. I've never been in such a noisy place, and it's a bit overwhelming for a girl of my upbringing - I had a loving and quiet home, until my best friend passed away. I'm hoping I can find a new friend soon. Someone might even enjoy brushing me daily so I can keep my coat soft, shiny and tangle-free. So, if you want a furry friend who would love to snuggle up and keep you warm on those cold days, then come along and visit. I'm spayed, leuk & fiv negative, vaccinated, chipped and I'm only about 8-10 years old."

STEPHIE

"My name is Stephie. I'm a tiny, slim black kitty. Nobody can believe that I was a mom because I am still a baby myself. I'm very small, petite and cute. I enjoy being petted and loved, but I'm a little afraid of being picked up. With someone gentle and kind, I could easily learn to be held. If you talk to me kindly, I look right into your eyes with love. I am quiet and clean and easy to live with. Won't somebody nice pick me, please?"

Stephie is up to date with shots, litter-box trained and altered. To adopt a cat or kitten from Angelcat Haven, please call the message center at 508-203-4240 to make an appointment to meet the cats. Adoption applications can be found at www.angelcathaven.com Completed applications can be e-mailed to Rose@angelcathaven.com or faxed to 508-643-1999.

MR. BEAN

Mr. Bean needs your help. He came to Nine Lives from Norton Animal Hospital. He was brought into the veterinary clinic with a blockage. His former owner OK'd the medical care required but when he found out more would be required he told Norton Animal Hospital to euthanize Mr. Bean. Norton Animal Hospital asked Nine Lives if we might have room for him, which we did. A determination had not been made as to what is causing his problems but he has been treated for a urinary tract infection. He will require more testing.

Nine Lives is a non-profit all-volunteer, no-kill shelter. We depend on donations and our adopt-a-cage program to finance the care of our kitties. Mr. Bean's medical costs have been really expensive, but believe me he is really worth it. Mr. Bean is 3 years old. He is not ready for adoption yet as his medical care is incomplete. If you would be interested in sponsoring him in our adopt-a-cage program or would like to make a contribution to help with his medical care, please stop by the shelter or call the shelter hotline at 508-285-5159.

HEATHER

Heather is a 2- to 3-year-old spayed female in need of home. She is a beautiful brown tabby. She was rescued when a home was left unoccupied and she was found by a cleaning group. She has been examined by Wispering Pines Animal Hoapital and has had all her shots updated and also surgery on her neck for a benign tumor. She would probably be better in a home as the only kitty, and maybe better with adults or older children. She is being boarded and can be seen at Whispering Pines at 7 Sharon Ave. in Norfolk. Felines of Foxboro is a nonprofit resue group in Foxboro and can be reached at 508-698-7439 or 508-543-7497.

ONE-EYED JACK

One-Eyed Jack is just that, a one-eyed tabby conveniently named Jack. He was rescued by animal control, but not before his left eye was in pretty bad shape. Unfortunately, it had to be removed. But luckily, he's quite healthy and, with one less eye, you can focus on how handsome the rest of him is! Being that he's missing an eye to size people up with, he takes his time to get to know people, but go slow and you'll surely win him over. They say animals look up to their caretakers, so if you would love to have a cat who will always give you a reassuring wink, come meet Jack! He is up to date on routine shots, neutered, and house trained. For more information on Jack or other adoptable animals, contact the Attleboro Animal Shelter at 508-761-5617 or visit the Friends of the Attleboro Animal Shelter's Web site at attleboropets.petfinder.com.
