Last modified: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 1:12 AM EDT City man who jumped out window to escape police pleads guilty BY DAVID LINTON SUN CHRONICLE STAFF ATTLEBORO - A 42-year-old man who jumped out of a third-floor window last October in a desperate attempt to escape police after terrorizing his girlfriend and neighbors pleaded guilty today. Mark A. McLean, of 27 Fourth St. in Attleboro, was sentenced in Attleboro District Court to serve 18 months of a maximum 2 -year jail term on domestic assault-related charges. Judge Robert E. Baylor also gave McLean concurrent six-month jail sentences for breaking into neighbors' homes in the wild escapade Oct. 2. Police chased McLean to a third-floor apartment at 27 Fourth St., where he leapt through a window onto the porch roof below, then fell another 15 to 20 feet to the ground, police said. He continued to struggle with police until they doused him with pepper spray to subdue him, authorities said. McLean spent several weeks in an inmate hospital recovering from broken bones to his hips, and other injuries suffered in the fall. His girlfriend told police that McLean was on a day-long drug and alcohol binge before assaulting her and putting a knife to her throat, authorities said. "He told her, quote, 'The only way you're leaving this apartment is in a body bag,'" Assistant District Attorney Jessica Lennon told the judge. The woman fled the apartment and later sought medical treatment in Rhode Island, police said. The balance of McLean's sentence was continued with probation for two years. He is required to submit to random drug and alcohol tests and obtain batterer's counseling. Baylor gave McLean credit for the five months he has been held in jail while awaiting trial.
