WRENTHAM - Acting Fire Chief Jay McMorrow happened to be driving by an East Street home Tuesday when firefighters received an emergency call for a child not breathing.
McMorrow drove to the house at 82 East St. about 12:34 p.m. and ran inside.
"The mother gave me her 2-year-old and said, 'She's not breathing,'" McMorrow recalled Wednesday when contacted by The Sun Chronicle.
McMorrow checked the child's airway and gave the child cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the toddler started breathing again.
The child was taken by ambulance to Caritas Norwood Hospital. "The last report we heard was that she was doing great," he said.
The fire official said the child might have suffered a seizure, but whatever the medical problem was, he was glad he was close by and able to intervene. "It felt great," McMorrow said.
The chief said he could not identify the victim because of medical privacy laws.
