Challenger Baseball: Baseball fun for children with Special Needs. If your child would like to play baseball, but the town league isn't the right fit, think about joining the Challenger League. All children from age 7 and up are welcome, regardless of physical, emotional or intellectual disability.The league is based in Norwood, but encompasses players from many area towns. The Challenger League is a division of Little League Baseball. Games are played in Foxboro and Norwood on Sunday afternoons. Practices are either in Foxboro or Norwood, depending on which team you join. Season runs April until June. Blue Jays Baseball Club is sponsoring a high school exhibition series for varsity and junior varsity teams near the Baseball Hall of Fame on April 24-25-26-27 and May 10. Dean College Professor Jeff Skillings will present his annual tribute to the opening day of baseball season as he speaks about "Baseball and the American Dream," at the Dean College Campus Center on April 7 at 7 p.m. The presentation, open to the public free of charge, will be held in the Campus Center Atrium, 135 Emmons Street, in Franklin.

New England Colonials International Basketball Club: Accepting applications for two overseas basketball tours for April school vacation; Colonials' Rovers tour, open to boys in 9th grade, will head to Ireland. Rhode Island Breakers Boys Basketball Club will be conducting the 4th Annual College Showcase at the Mass Premier Courts in Foxboro on Sunday, March 16 at 6 p.m. College-bound high school players, interested in showcasing their game to College Coaches, Scouting Services and Prep School Coaches should attend. Sherwood Sports Complex along with R.A.B.C. would like to announce the expansion of the annual Winter/Spring League held at Sherwood Sports Complex in Seekonk. This League will run from late March ( start date March 27th ) thru early May, Playing twice per week. Games will be played on Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons. Teams will play 10 games in addition to play off games. There will be an A and B division. The A division will consist of teams with current college Division II and Division III players on them, along with former DI players, as well as several sucessful men's teams. The B Division will consist of graduating High School seniors, fifth year seniors, as well as college players and other competitive players. The director of the League along with the teams themselves, will determin which division the team should be in. The entire league is intended to be highly competitive. For the many seniors, fifth year seniors, prep school players, jr.college players, as well as transfer students who have not selected a college, there will be college coaches in attendance. College coaches will also be sent information about these players. For players who have graduated, but still wish to compete, several pro leagues such as the ABA will be contacted and sent information on these players. The fee is $650 per team ( $700 if numbered t-shirts are provided by the league ) and must be payed by the first game of the season. Pawtucket Family YMCA located at 20 Summer Street in Pawtucket, RI will be hosting tryouts for the AAU Girl's Basketball Club. The tryouts will be on Saturday, March 15th and is open to Grades, 9, 10 and 11 from 3-4:30 p.m. and Grades, 5, 6, 7 and 8 from 4:30-6 p.m. Tryouts for Grades, 9, 10 and 11 are from 6:30-8 p.m. and will be happening on Tuesday, March 18th and again, on Wednesday, March 19th for Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 from 6-7 p.m. Ernie DiGregorio will be running this AAU Basketball Club. He is best known for being a Providence College's All-Star where he led the Friars to the 1973 NCAA Final Four championship. Ernie averaged 30 points a game and went on to become PC's all-time career assist leader and earned the 1973-74 National Basketball Association Rookie of the Year award. Ernie also played for the Buffalo Braves and the Boston Celtics. Ernie D's experience will provide a tremendous training ground and opportunity for girls to develop their basketball skills. There is no cost to try out for these teams. All new, or interested, players are welcome to attend tryouts and compete for a spot on the basketball teams. FOOTBALL

Mansfield Pop Warner football and cheerleading registration will be held on Saturday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Qualters Middle School cafeteria. The program is open to all boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 15 years old (before July 31, 2008) or through Grade 8. The fees are $130 for one child, $200 for two children and a maximum of $250 for three or more children. Rosters will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Football players are required to attend the registration in order to obtain their pre-season weight, which is necessary for roster placement.

Blue Pride Camp: Registration is underway for the Bombardier Blue Pride Football camp at Attleboro High School's Tozier-Cassidy Field in July and August. The instructional camps for boys in grades 4-8 and 9-10 will be held July 14-18 abnd Aug. 4-8 under the direction of the AHS football staff. Enrollment is limited. Individuals should report with shorts, t-shirt, cleats or sneakers. A water bottle and mouth piece is recommended. The registration fee is $60 before May 1 and $80 thereafter. Instruction and skill development will be offered in individual and team offensive and defensive techniques as well as daily individual and team competitions.

SOCCER

Sign up for the Seekonk Youth Soccer Spring 2008 Recreation Clinic will run until Tuesday, April 1. The six-week session starts on Tuesday, April 15 and will run until Saturday, May 24. The clinic is for youngsters ages four and a half to eight years old. The new Spring Recreational Clinic will consist of a multi-week skills program. The goal of this program will be to teach and develop foot skills to the U-6 and U-8 age groups and prepare them to participate in the Fall Recreational league. MISCELLANEOUS

Hockomock Area YMCA youth sports leagues will be offered in April, with registration underway. Leagues will include: Co-Ed Youth Soccer: League time includes three practices and five games. The emphasis is on fun, skill development, team play, and sportsmanship. Each player will receive a T-shirt and end-of-season award. Bernon family branch in Franklin (ages 3, 4, and 5-6), Foxboro branch (ages 4 and 5-6), North Attleboro branch, (ages 4, 5-6, and 7-8); Co-Ed T-Ball: Instructors will teach basic skills and focus on fun, team play, and social interaction. Bernon family branch in Franklin, ages 3 and 4-5, Foxboro branch (ages 4 and 5-6), North Attleboro branch (ages 4, 5-6, and 7-8); Girls Instructional Softball: This program includes the fundamentals. Participants will advance at their own pace, and coaches will pitch and teach in a way that builds confidence, but also challenges and builds skills. All girls will practice all of the different positions and play in every game. Teams will consist of 10-12 girls. Foxboro branch (ages 6-8); Beginner Cheerleading: Girls will be coached on cheerleading basics, including jumps, tumbling, cheering, and dancing. The program consists of four weeks of practice and then four weeks of cheering for flag football games. Foxboro branch (ages 6-8); Co-Ed Flag Football: This eight-week program (three weeks of practice and five weeks of games) will focus on fundamental skills, team play, sportsmanship and fun. Players must wear mouth guards. Participants will receive a team jersey to keep. Foxboro branch (ages 6-8 and 9-11); Middle School Dodgeball League: Foxboro branch; Adult leagues: These include dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, softball, kickball, and wiffleball. Feehan Hall of Fame: eight former Bishop Feehan High athletic greats will be inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame May 9 at the Attleboro Lodge of Elks. The members of the 2007 Hall of Fame class include basketball-volleyball player Monika Rothemich ('97), football player Greg Nazarian ('85), tennis player Jacki Dooley ('89), baseball player Mike Galligan ('94), golfer and swimmer Steve Finocchi ('98), basketball player Jeff Cavallo ('90), football-baseball player Mike Cataldo ('98) and former swimming coach Karen Brennan.
