ATTLEBORO - A 26-year-old man charged last month with the alleged rape of a developmentally challenged woman at Lees Pond has been indicted by a Bristol County grand jury, a prosecutor said Friday.

Norman Thweatt, 26, of Lawrence, has pleaded innocent in Attleboro District Court where a probable cause hearing had been scheduled for Friday.

He will now be transferred to New Bedford Superior Court for trial as a result of the indictment. A date for arraignment in superior court has not been scheduled.

Thweatt, formerly of Pawtucket, is being held in jail on $250,000 cash of $2.5 million surety in connection with the alleged rape on Dec. 12.
