Foxboro selectmen OK Revs' schedule

FOXBORO - Selectmen have licensed the New England Revolution's 2008 home schedule, which starts Saturday at Gillette Stadium.

Selectmen Tuesday night unanimously licensed Kraft Soccer LLC for 15 home soccer matches, plus potential home playoff matches and five potential international ones.

The Revs open their 2008 season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday here against the Houston Dynamo. The home season ends Oct. 25 against the Kansas City Wizards.

Tickets are $19, $27 and $37. Kraft officials expect an average crowd of 15,000.

However, up to 40,000 are expected when David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy visit on Aug. 30. Two international matches have been scheduled: July 13 and July 16, between the Revs and Mexican Super Liga club teams.

Police Chief Edward O'Leary told selectmen those two matches "will pose a different challenge."

"Although national teams will not be involved, the club teams from Mexico may have a following in the area," said O'Leary, who recommended licensing the schedule.

Gillette will open two hours before kickoff and close one hour after each match.
