A Plainville man arrested earlier in the week by North Attleboro police for driving with a fake license in his dead neighbor's name has been released on bail for that charge but was arrested by Plainville police Friday on related charges.

Thomas Civitarese Jr., 50, of Village Green apartments on Route 106, was arrested by Plainville detective James Floyd along with detectives from the Norfolk County Task Force, Plainville police said.

During the execution of a search warrant, police said they discovered several items that appear to be stolen.

Civitarese was charged with forgery and receiving stolen property at his residence at 71 Messenger St.

It is alleged Civitarese forged documents to assume the identity of James Baily, who died on July 20, 2006. It is also alleged that Civitarese also forged documents in order to purchase and register a motor vehicle in Baily's name. Civitarese was convicted of a similar offense in 2007 and served 60 days in jail, police said.

Civitarese is being held at the Plainville Police Station on $10,000 cash bail. He will be arraigned at Wrentham District Court Monday.

The Plainville investigation is the result of a motor vehicle stop that occurred in 2007, and Civitarese has been under investigation since then, police said.

North Attleboro police Monday arrested Civitarese with the help of a tipster. Police confiscated a driver's license with the defendant's photograph but the personal information of Baily.

Prosecutors said Civitarese had fraudulently obtained the license because his own was suspended for 10 years because of a misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide conviction.

Civitarese was freed on $5,000 cash bail Wednesday after a New Bedford Superior Court judge lowered bail from the $30,000 cash set in Attleboro District Court to $5,000.

Civitarese's lawyer, Daniel Rich of Norton, argued that he was not a flight risk and would appear in court. He said his client had been released without bail and appeared in court for arraignment in Attleboro after his arrest.
