Norfolk school board member to resign

NORFOLK - There will be more changes for the local school system besides Superintendent Chris Augusta-Scott leaving the end of the school year to oversee Lowell's schools as the school board will soon have a majority turnover in membership.

Committee member Danielle Rochefort has submitted her resignation, effective April 9.

With board members Kim Williams and Sally Grant not running for re-election at the annual town election May 6, that means three of the five members will be new.

Marie Zullo and Ross Gilleland are running unopposed on the ballot.

Rochefort, who was appointed to the school board in June 2006 to fill a one-year vacancy and ran for a full three-year term last spring, is the co-chairwoman of the school building task force that has been working for the last few years to replace Freeman-Centennial School with a new building. "That project really is picking up. She feels she can best serve the children of Norfolk by devoting herself to that project full time," school board Chairwoman Kim Williams said.

Replacement to be named

Selectmen and school committee members will meet to appoint a resident to fill Rochefort's seat until the May 2009 election, when there will be one year remaining in the term.

If interested in serving, let the school department know.
