SUV rolls over on Toner Blvd. trying to avoid vehicle exiting highway

ATTLEBORO - Four people suffered non-life-threatening injuries Saturday night when a sports utility vehicle driving on Toner Boulevard apparently swerved to avoid hitting a pick-up truck that was exiting Interstate 95, then spun out of control and rolled over onto its roof.

Fire officials said the injuries didn't appear to be significant, although all four passengers were put on stretchers as a precaution. Three rescue vehicles from Attleboro and North Attleboro transported the four people to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

The accident, which happened shortly before 8 p.m., slowed traffic along the busy stretch of roadway near the highway ramps and the Tri-Boro Plaza shopping center. One lane of Toner Boulevard was closed to traffic for a short while.

The roadway was littered with a huge amount of broken glass. Officials also worked to clean up the residue from spilled fluids by treating the road with a chemical compound.

Vehicles exiting from I-95 and attempting to turn right at the end of the ramp toward North Attleboro were instead directed off the highway in the opposite direction, toward Route 152.
