Seekonk board has praise for new town administrator

SEEKONK - Town Administrator Michael Carroll has earned the respect of the board of selectmen in his first few months on the job.

The Wrentham resident began working for the town in January and had been the executive secretary for the town of Randolph.

Carroll was appointed by the board for his numerous years of government experience. In addition, Carroll served on Wrentham's planning board and board of selectmen.

Seekonk Selectmen Chairman Robert Richardson said Carroll has "endless energy," noting Carroll has 27 folders on his office desk.

At the last selectmen's meeting, Carroll outlined his goals for the next several months, including a reorganization of the fire department to place personnel at new fire stations in the north and south ends of town, as well as a long-term strategic plan for the town's finances. Besides planning the spring town meeting and the budget for the next fiscal year, Carroll is busy negotiating seven union contracts, which will come up for renewal in June.

Carroll also will be busy updating the town's Web site, supervising possible revisions to the town charter and creating a more open relationship with the public.

"He's accomplished so much," Richardson said, adding: "His goals are a work in progress."
