Where do you find Appalachia? In what country could you visit the city of Kabul?
Then you might be able to keep up with local fourth-through-eighth graders who were chosen to compete in the state Geography Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society.
Five area students will appear in the state-level competition Friday at Clark University in Worcester.
State winners will move on to the national competition next month.
Area students who will appear at the state contest include:
Attleboro's David Stewart, an eighth-grader at St. John the Evangelist School, and Benjamin S. Rajaduroa, a seventh-grader at Dayspring Christian Academy.
Foxboro residents Shannon A. Holley, a sixth-grader at Foxborough Regional Charter School, and Jason Silvestry, a fourth-grader at the Sage School.
Norton resident Scott W. Rotondi, a seventh-grader at Norton Middle School.
The national geography bee will be held May 20-21 in Washington.
First prize in the national competition is a $25,000 scholarship and lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society.
Second- and third-place finishers will receive $15,000 and $10,000 scholarships.
