Sun Chronicle all-stars on ice

TOM MAGUIREIt was a solid varsity debut for all-star Colin Flynn and the North Attleboro hockey team. The Hockomock League All-Star Hockey game was held at the Asiaf Rink in Brockton.

ATTLEBORO - The Shamrocks of Bishop Feehan High set a single-season record for victories with 16.

The Warriors of King Philip won more games (13) in a single season than back to the days of Dick Lillis in the 1970's. So too did the Hornets get in the 'W' column on a regular basis, taking home a record 16 wins.

Not only that, but the Foxboro High Warriors qualified for the MIAA Tournament and the Rocketeers of North Attleboro High skated onto the ice for the very first time in two decades as a varsity team.

Six members of those King Philip High and Mansfield High teams along with five Shamrocks from Bishop Feehan High are among the area's elite hockey players, selections to the 2007-08 Sun Chronicle All-Star Hockey Team.

Joining the Warriors, Hornets and Shamrocks is the catalytic center iceman for the Foxboro High Warriors, Matt McCarthy, and the two men in the middle of the action for a revitalized North Attleboro High program, Colin Flynn and Tom McAuliffe.
Three-time All-Sun Chronicle selections - Bishop Feehan High senior center Jordan Davidner and Mansfield High senior goalie Ryan Kershaw - lead the list of the area's top returnee.

Also returning to the All-Sun Chronicle Team are Bishop Feehan's defensive backbone of senior defenseman Devan Cornetta, a four-year starter, and junior goalie Tyler Holske along with Mansfield High center Brendan Carroll and King Philip High center D.J. Goldberg.

Davidner, who scored more goals (25) than any Shamrock in two decades is joined on the All-Sun Chronicle Team by 27-point producer Jon Casali and stalwart two-way forward Barrett Elliott, along with Cornetta and Holske.

Kershaw, who like Holske had a sub-2.00 goals against average in his fourth varsity season, skated onto the All-Sun Chronicle ice with Carroll, a 27-point producer, defenseman Taylor Mattus, leading scorer, 29-point producer Will Gasson and 22-point producer Shane Harrington and Jon DiFlaminies as Mansfield High's six all-stars.

Goldberg was one of a half-dozen KP Warriors who gained All Sun Chronicle recognition with leading scorers, 27-point producers Matt Riddoch and Peter MacIntyre, two-way standout John Cuozzo and the rugged rearguards, defenders hris Pellichero and Andrew Fox.

Unfortunately, only Mansfield, the No. 5 seed in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Tournament, won a postseason game, beating Quincy in the first round.

King Philip, the No. 6 seed in the Division 2 Tournament, suffered a one-goal loss in overtime; Bishop Feehan, the No. 5 seed in the Division 3 Tournament suffered a one-goal loss in overtime; and Foxboro, also skating in the Division 3 Tournament, suffered a one-goal loss to Hanover.
