Feehan's Hopkins earns Big East honor

Former Bishop Feehan High shortstop Greg Hopkins, starting at shortstop for the St. John's University baseball team, was named to the All Big East honor roll for the week.
A freshman, Hopkins had been starting at third base for the Red Storm. But, the Mansfield resident moved over to shortstop when the starting shortstop suffered a broken hand.
Hopkins ranks No. 4 in the Big East in hitting with a Red Storm best .406 batting average. He is also ranked No. 3 in the Big East in on-base percentage (.506) and is No. 7 in slugging percentage (.623).
Hopkins batted .571 last week with a .684 on-base percentage, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. He had three multi-hit games, drove in five runs, scored six runs and uncorked his first collegiate career homer.
Against Columbia, Hopkins had two hits, including a homer and drove in two runs. In a double-header against Seton Hall, Hopkins went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored in the first game and then had two hits and two runs scored in the nightcap.
King Philip's Cuozzo named All-American
Union College sophomore Allison Cuozzo of Norfolk, the former King Philip High great, has been named the Liberty League Indoor Track Co-Performer of the Year. Union's first female two-time track and field All-American.
Cuozzo was the national runner up in the 800 meter run at the NCAA Division III Championships with a time of 2:13.88. At the ECAC Championships, she cut her best time in the 800 by more than two seconds for first place, another school record and an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:12.81. Cuozzo also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay that broke the school record (4:11.07).
She broke the Liberty League record in the mile (5:11.65) and ran in the distance medley relay that broke the Liberty League record (12:59.40) at the league championships and returned to Canton the following week to win and set school records in both the 800 (2:15.16) and the mile (5:07.63) at the NYSCYC Championships, earning Most Outstanding Female Runner of the Meet honors. She also ran the anchor of the first-place distance medley relay team (12:32.40).
She ran in the first-place finish distance medley (12:58.80), ran the 4x400 (4:12.09) to finish second and won the 800 (2:15.84, NCAA provisional mark) at Smith on Feb. 9.
Cuozzo won the 1000 (2:58.56) at Syracuse on February 2, breaking the then-school record by more than 10 seconds. She also ran in the 4x400 relay that finished third (4:15.07). She won the 800 (2:17.35) at Wesleyan on January 26, and was second the 600m (1:38.17) at Williams on January 19 with a school-record time.
