BOYS TENNIS: Mansfield, Attleboro sweep their matches

MANSFIELD - Just two matches into the season and Mansfield High School boys' tennis coach Dan Etter couldn't have scripted a better start.

On Monday afternoon, the Hornets surrendered just eight games at singles and just three games in its two doubles wins as they improved to 2-0 with a 5-0 blanking of Hockomock League foe Canton.

"Things are only going to get harder for us, but it's nice to start the season with a couple of wins," noted Etter, whose team is at Franklin on Wednesday.

Will Condon and Ben Yeransian both won their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches 6-0, 6-4 while Craig Margolin pitched the shutout at No. 3 singles. Also for Mansfield, Jeff Ivas-Ryan Chambers gave up just one game in another efficient win.

Also in the Hockomock League, (2-0) scored a 4-1 verdict over Oliver Ames. Lucas DeForest didn't lose a game in taking his No. 1 singles match for the Bombardiers, while Matt Pereira and Sanjeeva Chetty also won their matches in straight sets. North entertains King Philip Wednesday.

The Warriors began their season with a 4-1 Hockomock League victory at Franklin. Senior Duncan Yarworth didn't lose a game in winning his No. 1 singles match and senior Harrison David lost just one game in taking his No. 3 singles match. KP visits North Attleboro Wednesday.

At , the Bombardiers (1-1) overpowered Durfee 5-0 in a non-league match. James Bensson didn't lose a game in winning his No. 1 singles match, while Derek Goulet and Hani Yusef lost just two games in taking their No. 1 doubles match.

The unbeaten Lancers of High (3-0) dealt Millis a 4-1 setback in a Tri-Valley League match. Pat Hillman lost just two games in taking his No. 3 singles match for the lancers, while both Norton doubles team posted shutouts. The Lancers visit Holliston Wednesday.

The Warriors began their season by meeting South Coast Conference powerhouse Old Rochester and fell 5-0, winning just one game among the five sets. The Warriors visit arch-rival Dighton-Rehoboth today.
