TRACK & FIELD: D-R girls finally get past Seekonk

SEEKONK - It's been a long time coming.
But for the first time since 2001, the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High girls' track team prevailed over rival Seekonk, scoring an 88-48 decision in Monday's South Coast Conference action.
Ashley Noons (shot put, discus) and Samantha Reddington (400, 300 hurdles) each won two events for the Falcons (2-0). However, Falcon sweeps, led by Kathleen Smith in the long jump, Aislyn Sherry in the 200 and Kelsey Mahoney in the 100, provided the momentum.
Molly Beauchemain (mile, two mile) and Jordan Spina (100 hurdles, triple jump) each won two events for the Warriors.
On the boys' side, the Falcons Bobby Ceurvels won all four events in which he participated, helping Dighton-Rehoboth to a 971/2-381/2 victory over Seekonk. Ceurvels won the triple jump (39-71/2), high jump (5-6) and both hurdles events as the Falcons finished first in all but two individual events.
Colm Craig (javelin, mile) and Matt Gaudet (200, 100) were both double-winners for D-R.
For Seekonk, Johnny Gregorek won the two mile (10:04.5) and was third in the 800. Teammate Joe Teixeira won the shot put and was runner-up in the 100.
At , the Lancer boys' team (2-0) overcame a 28-26 deficit after the weight and field events to topple Medway 84-52 in a Tri-Valley League meet. Andrew Swiderski (mile, two mile), Emerson Almeida (high jump, 400), Mark Ledbetter (shot put, discus) and Brian Bettencourt (100, 200) each won two events for the Lancers.
Kelly Allen (shot put discus) and Jacki Nash (mile, 800) each won two events, while Laura Johansmeyer won the 100 hurdles and took second in the 300 hurdles, but the Norton girls (1-1) fell 73-63 to Medway. The Lancers entertain Ashland Thursday.
The boys moved to 2-0 on the year with a 75-52 victory over Southeastern Regional. Ryan Bartlett (11.9) kickstarted a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 meters with Mark Cividino (11.9) and Lucas Mistler (12.1) following close behind. Also for T-C, Terrance Rooney (59.0) won the 400 and Jared Gaumond won the 200 (25.3).
Drew Flamenco won the triple jump (33-2) and placed second in the 200 (26.3) while the Cougars won both relay events.
On the girls' side, the Cougars dropped to 0-2 as they fell to Southeastern 78-52. Despite the loss, Honey Koch won the mile (7:21) while Amanda Barr took first in the javelin (64-4) and the low hurdles (46.2).
Tri-County hosts Keefe Tech on Monday.
