City men convicted on drug charges

ATTLEBORO - Two Attleboro men have been sentenced to prison after being convicted of carrying cocaine in the trunk of a car stopped last year on the Ohio Turnpike.

Luis Alicea, 30, and Doneri Aguilar, 48, both of Attleboro, were among four men who entered no-contest pleas and were found guilty Thursday by Judge Linda Jennings in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, the Toldeo Blade reported. The other defendants were Carlos Clemente, 42, and Pedro Alvarado, 29, both of Providence.

Alicea and Clemente were sentenced to two years in prison. Alvarado and Aguilar were sentenced to one year.

The men, traveling east in two cars, were stopped Sept. 27 by an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper who became suspicious when he noticed the cars following one another closely. One driver put his hand up over his face to shield it from the trooper as he drove by, Assistant Prosecutor Tim Braun told the judge.

Troopers, using a drug-detecting dog, found hidden compartments in the bumper of one car, although the compartments were empty. Inside the trunk, troopers found decorative masks containing 13.2 pounds of cocaine. The men were driving from Chicago, where they had picked up Alicea at an airport, back to New England, where they lived.
