Driver with flat tire faces charges after failing to stop for police

ATTLEBORO - An alleged drunken driver in a car with a smashed hood and flat tire was arrested early Saturday morning when he drove to a stop on Emory Street after nearly hitting two parked cars, police said.

Ryan P. Haddigan, 32, of Walpole, was arrested shortly after midnight after a struggle with police during which he allegedly bit Officer Brett Poirier's left thumb.

Police say they found a near empty bottle of vodka, bottles of beer and a small amount of cocaine inside the car.

In addition to drunken driving, Haddigan was charged with failing to stop for police, driving to endanger, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, possession of cocaine, having an open container of alcohol and being disorderly, according to police.

Police allege the car Haddigan was driving sped away from Poirier on Pleasant Street moments before Poirier spotted the vehicle again on Park Street. Assisting Poirier were officers Stephen Graney and Keith Bussiere. Haddigan was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Attleboro District Court.
