ATTLEBORO - A $100,000 allotment for a feasibility study for high school renovations won't be in next year's city capital budget as originally planned.

The capital planning document would move the feasibility study to the 2010-2011 fiscal year, Superintendent Pia Durkin said.

The delay is mainly because of the need to clarify the project's status with the Massachusetts School Building Authority, which doles out reimbursements for local school construction and rebuilding plans.

Instead, the budget will move up plans to replace roofs over the boiler room and chorus room in the original, 1961 portion of the high school building. Those roofs, which have been leaking, can't wait for a general renovation project Durkin said.

The high school failed earlier this year to make the list of 84 top projects under consideration for immediate funding by the state. The high school project is on a lower tier of projects being evaluated by the state, but as yet there is no word on how soon the renovations can be funded.

The present high school, constructed in the early 1960s and expanded in 1975, requires a number of upgrades and repairs, from heating and electrical systems to replacement of doors and windows.

The older part of the building has been plagued repeatedly with leaky roofs and deteriorating steam pipes leaking beneath the concrete floors.
