SE Voke deal will save energy
Top Headlines Cutting water use by at least 50 percent is part of this goal, Facilities Engineer James Tassinari said Monday. Southeastern has reached a preliminary deal with energy services giant Ameresco of Framingham to do a two-month study and then implement recommendations, Tassinari said. Southeastern will implement its own measures as well, Tassinari said. High-efficiency lights will be installed. About 200 to 300 sensors will control more than 4,000 lights, he said. Southeastern officials will seek funding help from local utilities. "National Grid and our gas company are very receptive," Tassinari said. "A lot of the items don't take a lot of expense. It's implementing the ideas." A new computerized energy management system will shut off utilities in rooms that aren't in use, he said. "We'll shut the building off at 2:30 p.m. and turn it back on at 6 p.m. for night school," Tassinari explained. The energy conservation effort continues Southeastern's drive toward becoming more of a "green school," an idea which Tassinari said he presented to Superintendent Luis Lopes and the regional school board last fall. The Southeastern Regional School District includes Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, and serves Foxboro, Mansfield, Norton, Brockton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Sharon, Stoughton and West Bridgewater.
