1st & 10 Foundation to hold fundraiser for Norton High Football. On Saturday May 17, the 1st & 10 Foundation will sponsor its first annual Horseshoe Tournament to benefit the Norton High School football program. This event will take place at the Norton VFW Post, Summer Street, Norton MA. The arrival time for participants is 1:30 pm, and the tournament will begin promptly at 2:00PM. This will be a double-elimination tournament with each game lasting 15 innings. There will be cash prizes for the top four teams. The fee for each player is $25.00. You may sign up as a single player or bring your own team. The field is limited to 64 Players and will be based on a "1st come, 1st served" basis, depending on the date tournament fees and registrations are received. You will not be confirmed until you have signed up and paid your tournament fee. MISCELLANEOUS

The Attleboro Recreation Department recently announced its program listing for the spring and summer of 2008. The season kicks off with a free youth golf outing for players of all skill levels on Saturday May 10th at Locust Valley Golf Course. The event includes a clinic sponsored by the Attleboro Area Golf Association (A.A.G.A.), round of golf, cookout and prize raffle. Next it is on to Fenway Park to see the Boston Red Sox vs. Kansas City Royals on Tuesday May 20th. Tickets are $ 30.00 each with a limit of two per household. Other summer trips include: Fenway Park & Prudential Observatory on July 9th; Pawtucket Red Sox vs. Scranton Yankees for Dustin Pedroia Bobblehead Night on August 2nd and Boston Duck Tour, Faneuil Hall and State House on August 14th. Before heading out to the evening fireworks, start your 4th of July at the Poncin Hewitt Complex as the family oriented Kidz 4th Fun returns. Join other families from 9:00-noon for a morning of fun, games, laughter and cookout. Age appropriate races include: baby crawl, peanut on-a- spoon race, three-legged race, wheel-barrel race, potato-sack race the Sponge-Bob race and more. Kids should bring their decorated bicycle as we parade around the complex to celebrate our nations independence. Attleboro Recreation will again be offering its All Day Program for children entering 1st grade through age 13. Run out of the Bartek Recreation Center the program is open M-F between 7:30am - 5:30pm at a weekly cost of $ 115.00. In addition to weekly field trips children will participate in arts & crafts, indoor sports, swimming lessons, open swim, computer lab, various board games, pool, ping pong and much more. Swim lessons will also be offered in 2008. All three city pools open on Tuesday July1st and are open through Friday August 22nd. Hours will be noon - 7:00pm on weekdays and 11:00am - 6:00pm weekends. Swim lessons are M-F or Saturday, in two-week sessions beginning on July 7th. It is anticipated that the state-owned George I. Spatcher Memorial Swimming Pool will reopen this summer. Sessions are three weeks in length and cost $ 40.00 per session. Saturday lessons will also be available and run consecutively for 6 weeks from July 12th - August 16th. As in past years 2008 will see the option of many youth sport camps including: archery, multi-sport camps including baseball, basketball and soccer, Planet Baseball - Rookie & All Star Camps, golf clinics, golf lessons, volleyball and a sand volleyball league. Youngsters ages 3-7 will love the Sports 4 Squirts and Mini-Hawk programs, both of which introduce children to various sports in a fun and interactive learning environment. New offerings this year include speed training and Tae Kwon Do. Speed training is an introductory program designed to help athletes aged 8+ enhance their sports performance. Join us for the popular Tae Kwon Do class, which is a self-defense system, based on the Korean martial art, Tae Kwon Do. Learn age appropriate, practical self-defense skills utilizing traditional martial arts discipline, respect and training techniques. Attleboro Recreation is once again teaming up with DoubleACS to offer the popular Adventures In Television program. This journey into television includes interviewing, writing, camera operation, directing, editing, lighting and more. This program is offered for free to Attleboro residents aged 12 and older. For those interested in arts & crafts the recreation departments travel arts & crafts program will hit the road again this summer. Feehan Hall of Fame: eight former Bishop Feehan High athletic greats will be inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame May 9 at the Attleboro Lodge of Elks. The members of the 2007 Hall of Fame class include basketball-volleyball player Monika Rothemich (1997), football player Greg Nazarian (1985), tennis player Jackie Dooley (1989), baseball player Mike Galligan (1994), golfer and swimmer Steve Finocchi (1998), basketball player Jeff Cavallo (1990), football-baseball player Mike Cataldo (1998) and former swimming coach Karen Brennan. Summer Sports Clinics at Franklin High School: Baseball, Softball, Football, Advanced Volleyball, Lacrosse, Tennis, Field Hockey and Basketball are some of the fun sports clinics offered this summer through the Franklin Public Schools. Students entering grades 4 though 12 are eligible to enroll in a variety of clinics. In addition to skill instruction in specific sports, there is the opportunity to develop and/or improve basic fitness through Coed Speed & Strength and Girls' Fitness. Each clinic runs for one week beginning the week of July 7 and ending Aug. 4. Franklin coaches and teachers will conduct these clinics. New England Futsal is arranging to assist in developing select teams in each of the competing age groups and provide professional futsal training & coaching to our local teams beginning at the end of April and running consistently through to the National Championships in July. Each of these teams will have the opportunity to train directly under a world class professional Brazilian futsal coach who will be on hand from May through to July to specifically train each of our teams headed to this year's national championships.
