NORFOLK - Call & Wait Auto Inc. has been fined $6,500 by the state Department of Environmental Protection for violating the notification provisions of the hazardous waste site cleanup regulations.
The alleged violation goes back to August 2006 when the DEP received laboratory analytical data indicating that releases of oil and hazardous materials had occurred on the Call & Wait Auto Inc. property, located at 15 Lincoln Road.
Business owner Paul Waznis was not available for comment on Wednesday.
While the concentrations of oil and hazardous material at the site required the business to notify the Department of Environmental Protection within 120 days, the business failed to do so.
"Prompt notification is an integral component to timely cleanup of sites whenever releases to the environment occur," said Martin Suuberg, director of the DEP's central regional office.
"Ignorance of notifiable conditions by responsible parties will not be tolerated by MassDEP," he said.
