North's Community School hosting blood drive


The granddaughter of a former Community School teacher will be remembered as the school hosts a blood drive this week.

The school will hold a blood drive with the Children's Hospital of Boston on Friday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in memory of Catherine Ann Bentley, who passed away in October. Bentley was the granddaughter of Ann Allen, who taught at Community School and in the North Attleboro school system for 31 years prior to her retirement last June.

Each donation can benefit up to four children and will take approximately 30 minutes. To schedule an appointment, contact Erin Harding at ebuckley@eudoramail.com or by calling 508-699-0679.

The Martin School Association is offering two scholarships to graduating high school seniors who attended the Martin School for at least one year and reside in North Attleboro.

Applications are available at the North Attleboro High School guidance department as well as Bishop Feehan, Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School and Bristol Country Agricultural School. The applications are also available online at www.naschools.net. Under "schools" choose Martin School and you'll find the application is located on the bottom of the school home page.

Deadline for applying is April 4. For any other information, call the Martin School at 508-643-2140. Parents and students are invited to attend a comprehensive presentation on college admissions at North Attleboro High School on Tuesday, March 25 at 7 p.m.

The seminar is hosted by MEFA, a state-created, nonprofit organization that assists families and high schools.

During the seminar, a MEFA representative will discuss the college admissions process and will talk to students and parents about what high school courses to take and offer tips for college interviews and essays.

As part of the Big Read of Eastern Massachusetts, Richards Memorial Library will be showing the movie "To Kill a Mockingbird" starring Gregory Peck on Saturday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. in the downstairs program room.

This is a free showing of this classic movie that follows closely the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Harper Lee. The movie is appropriate for older elementary school students through adults. Popcorn will be served.

There will be an additional showing on Thursday evening, March 27 at 7 p.m.

Reservations are appreciated, but not required.
