Fundraiser to aid 2008 NHS grad party

The organizing committee for Norton High School's Sixth Annual All-Night Graduation Party will hold a fundraiser at Roche Bros. supermarket on Route 140 from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21. Shoppers may give their receipts to Grad Night volunteers after check-out, and Roche Bros. will generously donate a percentage of the receipt to help fund this program.

The Norton High School Grad Night celebration is open to all 2008 graduating seniors of Norton High. During the evening, there will be many activities taking place, in addition to a huge variety of food, snacks and refreshments, and each senior will receive a special memento of the evening.

Seniors are not charged any fees for this special event. However, once they arrive, they must stay until the evening is over. Parents can feel secure that their son/daughter is celebrating in a protected environment with no driving, drinking or drugs.

"The Norton Road Show," hosted by Ralph Stefanelli, will stop by the Norton Historical Society's Old Schoolhouse at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18.

Stefanelli will appraise and discuss some pieces from the Society's old china collection. Much of the collection was given to the Society by Bertha Smith.

A reminder: the Norton Democratic Town Committee will meet at 10 a.m. this Saturday, March 15 at the Norton Public Library to elect new officers.

All Norton Democrats are invited to attend.

The Norton Public Library will host a series about Jane Austen.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, Professor James Mulholland from Wheaton College will give a brief lecture on Austen, touching on her life, her writings and some of the films based on her books and life.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, Chris Cormier Hayes will lead a discussion of "Persuasion."

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, the library will show the movie, "Persuasion." Bring your own snacks.

Also at the library - Erica/the Norton YMCA will present "Music Together," a music and movement class for children 1-5, at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28 at the Norton Public Library.

Space is limited. Registration at the library begins Friday, March 14.

The Norton schools will open on an upcoming Saturday - for tours. Scheduled for April 5, the tours will run at the following times: L.G. Nourse Elementary School, 8 a.m.; Norton Middle School, 9 a.m.; J.C. Solmonese Elementary School, 10 a.m.; Henri A. Yelle Elementary School, 11 a.m.; Norton High School, noon.

Jane Ellison will offer a flower-arranging class at the Norton Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. Participants will make an arrangement of silk and dried lasting materials for spring to decorate your door or wall.

This class is limited to 18 adults. A non-refundable materials fee of $30 must be paid upon registration in person at the library by April 1. Make checks payable to Jane Ellison.
